Join a team or play for fun! The Elsternwick Club offers lawn bowlers of all levels the opportunity to join a great club, with excellent facilities and a friendly atmosphere.

Are you thinking of trying lawn bowls? Try September!

The Elsternwick Club has one hour sessions for “try-bowlers” during September at 11am Wednesdays, 5.30 pm on Fridays and 10am on Saturdays. The Wednesday and Friday sessions continue in October, but September is the best time to start.

If you would like to try bowls, come to the Club at any of the times above. There is no need to book. Feel free to come by yourself or bring a group of friends with you. If these times do not suit, please contact us (see below) and we will arrange a time that does.

At these sessions, you will be able to see the Club’s impressive facilities and meet some of our members. You will only need a couple of sessions to decide that you like bowls and want to join the Club! Free coaching is available for all members. You are assured of a very friendly welcome.

All you need to try bowls is flat-soled shoes or bowl barefoot, as many do. We provide everything else, and please dress casually.

Playing Lawn Bowls

Lawn bowls allows you to:

Lawn bowls is not an expensive sport. Practice is free and organised social bowls and Pennant are only $5 per game. We will even lend you a set of bowls to get you started. Casual clothes are fine and you can even play in bare-feet until you have a pair of flat soled shoes. When you want a club uniform, you will find all bowls clothing items are inexpensive.

The Elsternwick Club offers bowlers:

Competitive Lawn Bowls

There are all kinds of club and local tournaments for people at all skill levels. Mixed events offer men and women the opportunity to compete in a fun and relaxed environment, and there is no better place to be on a gorgeous spring or summer day or a cool summer evening.

For those who love the excitement of competing, there are excellent competitive lawn bowls structures including club, regional, national and international events. In 2009-10, we had a very successful season with all but one side making the finals.

Our Pennant teams in 20010-11 will be:

• Pennant Divisions 1, 3 & 6 play on Saturday afternoon.
• Pennant Divisions A1 & B2 play on Tuesdays.
• Night Pennant is played on Tuesdays.
• In winter, teams play at the nearby South Caulfield indoor facility on Monday & Wednesday evenings.

Corporate & Social Bowls

The Club offers businesses, community groups, and individuals the opportunity to experience lawn bowls at our wonderful club. Enjoying a day or afternoon event for fun or “team building” is a great way to reward staff or entertain friends.

There are organised social games on Wednesday's, Thursdays & some Sundays, or members can organize their own games.

We can provide as little or as much supervision as you need and can provide catering to make it an event to remember. The basic cost is $20.00 per player for 2 hours.

Drinks are also available at Club prices and can be taken outside, except on the bowling green.

Junior Bowls

The Elsternwick Club is a committed supporter of the Group 16 Junior Development program. Many school students attend our greens to gain experience under the tutelage of our senior bowlers.

Success factors include the children:

• Having fun and enjoying themselves;
• Learning to deliver a bowl properly;
• Learning to use the aiming line;
• Learning to work out the aiming line themselves;
• Being able to enjoy bowls at any level;
• Improving their coordination;
• Building self confidence.
